Categories
Student Choreography
Routine created and choreographed by the dancer. May be any dance technique or combination of dance techniques. Only solos and duos will be critiqued in this category and are based on the choreography presented.
Ballet/Pointe
Routine must consist of ballet technique including classical steps and movement.
Tap
Tap rountines must consist primarily of tap technique. No double taps allowed. Recorded tap sounds are not permitted.
Jazz
Routine executing free form movement and styling conisting primarily of jazz technique.
Lyrical
Using a combination of ballet, jazz and/or modern techniques. Routines should demonstrate balance, extension, and control while using contemporary lyrical style.
Contemporary/Modern
Routines consisting of modern and ballet techniques, reaching beyond the standard jazz vocabulary.
Hip Hop
Routine should consist of 100 percent hip hop technique.
Street Jazz
A routine that consists of a mix of hip hop and jazz techniques.
Musical Theatre
Routines featuring any style of dance interpreting a song/character from a Broadway show, musical, movie, etc.
Song and Dance
A routine that is both dance and live vocals with no prerecorded vocals on the record track. (example: karaoke track)
Specialty
Any dance routine which is ethnic or folkloric, includes highland, Irish, African, baton and pom pom, etc.
Acro
Routines must consist of at least 50 percent acrobatic/gymnastic stunts incorporating dance technique and choreography.
Open
A routine that does not apply to the above listed categories.
